Wendy Sayvetz - Folk Soprano

The subway has always been a melting pot of music. And for 14 years, one clear voice has stood out, bringing calm to a hectic environment. The voice of Wendy Sayvetz recalls the sounds of folk-singer, Judy Collins...WNBC Television - "Celebrate the Subway"

Her astoundingly clear soprano ranges from haunting to defiant; her songs include everything from Scottish folklore to the poetry of John Donne to burning political protest...The Fairfield County Weekly

Commuters traveling to and from Grand Central Station may be familiar with an angelic voice that often echoes through the terminal...That beautiful voice isnŐt a stereo recording being piped in through a massive sound system; it is the live voice of Wendy Sayvetz...Greenwich Time

What links the songs is Miss SayvetzŐs sweet-sounding otherworldly voice which is reminiscent of Joan Baez and Judy Collins...The Princeton Packet

Wendy Sayvetz began singing and playing the guitar professionally in January of 1990, after being accepted into the New York MTAŐs Music Under New York program. For 17 years she has serenaded thousands of people every week as they pass through Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station, selling over 30,000 copies of her five self-produced recordings, and performing at countless private and corporate events, hired by her "train station fans".

Though her voice is often compared to that of Judy Collins and Joan Baez, Wendy puts her own musical stamp on a wide variety of lyrical and memorable "songs of the heart" including traditional ballads from around the world, folk-pop standards and originals, and Broadway classics. In addition to Music Under New York, Wendy has performed in concert at venues including: Symphony Space, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the White House, the United Nations, the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts, the Algonquin/Oak Room, the Trinity-Pawling Concert Series, BargeMusic,The Rye Arts Center, Planting Fields Arboretum, Ellis Island, The Howland Arts Center, Caffe Lena, The Fast Folk Cafe, Untermyer Performing Arts Series, and The West End Gate...as well as Venice (Italy) Carnivale and for Community Concerts Associations in California, the Northeast, Southwest, and Midwest.

Wendy's singing was recently featured on the WNBC television special "Celebrate the Subway" and on ABC television's "All My Children". She has also been featured on popular radio shows including NPR's "Weekend Edition Sunday" with Liane Hansen, WQXR's "Woody's Children" with Bob Sherman, WNYC's "Folk Song Festival" with Oscar Brand, WAMC's "Hudson River Sampler" with Wanda Fischer, WOR's "Rambling with Gambling" with John Gambling, and Bloomberg Radio's "Weekend Show" with Wes Richards.

In 1995, Wendy's first recording, "The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood", was given to and played for President Bill Clinton in the Oval Office, leading to a subsequent performance at The White House. A cut from this same album was played for an audience of over one million people at the 2003/2004 New Year's Eve Celebration in Times Square. In addition to her solo concerts Wendy also performs as part of the Abaca Duo with her husband, 8-string guitarist, Andrew Schulman, and as guest vocalist with Andrew's group, the Abaca String Quintet. Discography -The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood (1991); Red Red Rose (1993); Silky (1995); God Bless the Child (2001); Wendy and the Lost Boys - Track 39 (2003).
